VIRGINIA RUTH STEAKLEY, age 84, of Huntland, departed this life on March 12, 2011 at Southern TN Medical Center Skilled Care in Winchester, following a brief battle with cancer.  Miss. Steakley was a member of the Church of  Christ at Huntland.  She was retired from Arnold Engineering Development Center where she was employed for 37 years.  Her many hobbies included working in the yard with all of her flowers and trying to take care of and feed all the little stray cats and dogs that had been thrown away. 

Miss. Steakley was preceded in death by her parents Louis John and Mattie F. Steakley, brothers, James Thurman Steakley and Louis Sutton Steakley.  She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Nina and Royce Payne of Huntland, three nephews; Dr. John Michael (Kaye)  Payne of Murfreesboro, James Randy Payne of Tullahoma and Louis Sutton (Amy) Steakley of Winchester.  Three nieces; Marsha (Chris) Meadows of Nashville, Kathy Boyd of Brentwood and Sharon (Ed) Harper of Nashville.  Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 14,  at McClure Cemetery in Huntland with Bro. Bill Rogers officiating.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Animal Harbor in Belvidere.
